Saturday Climbing

Journal #2

Different generations go through situations due to different circumstances in their time. I think people my age face obstacles that are more socially and emotionally rather than physically.

I believe that teens my age mostly face themselves. It would be a person vs. person conflict. Because of current media, teens have a very difficult time being confident with their look. This, I would imagine is the most difficult thing us teens have to endure. In past generations, media probably wasn’t as widely distributed then it is currently. The media plays a great role in present life. The focus on teenage girls mainly revolves around the way they look. For example, most teens would have low self-esteem when comparing themselves to a model in the media. Another obstacle people my age usually encounter are several different social problems. Especially since Canada is a multicultural country, racism and prejudice happens a lot. Also, teens come across socials issues within their little communities such as the school, or their local neighbourhood. Their status in that group is defined by their behavior and/or by the way they look.

Teens also have to deal with competition and pressure that is placed upon us. Education is truly important nowadays. The difference between the past and present is that in the past, you can work your way up the ladder slowly without education. But because of new technology and new rules that apply to the world, education is the key for success in the future. Competition and pressure situated on teens, affects them emotionally because it causes a huge amount of stress as well as academic anxiety.

Although the present may face various obstacles, it usually produces similiar results.
