Article #1
-> http://www.bramptonguardian.com/opinion/editorial/article/512642--time-to-fight-bullies
Bullies have a lot of power. Although this power is not used in a positive way, people still obey them. In Lord of the Flies, I would consider Jack to be a bully because he punished boys for no apparent reason. He has the power to do all sort of things without even thinking twice.

-> http://www.bramptonguardian.com/community/article/811800--used-hockey-equipment-needed
Leadership is more than just being a role model for someone. Tim Onuyschuk showed leadership by creating a non-profit organization for disadvantaged kids. People would donate hockey equipment for these kids. This relates to the book in a way because leaders give more than they receive and they are happy about it. For example, Ralph gives up his time to help these boys survive.

This article represents responsibility. Facebook is a social network that more than 400 million people have. It creates problems and causes cyberbullying. Parents should be responsible enough to see what their kids are doing on it. Lord of the Flies revolves around responsibility. For example, the older kids taking care of the younger ones (Ralph taking care of Simon).

In this article, a fourteen year old gets a heart transplant. This refers to freedom because she can now live her life with no struggles and people treating her differently such as adults. She has to fight against herself to stay strong and healthy. In Lord of the Flies, these kids have freedom because they do not have adults around but they have to fight with themselves to try to survive.

An artist by the name of M.I.A., had her music video banned because it had violent scenes of executions. Because it wasn't "clean" he had to be taken off. Just like following the rules, if you don't listen you get punished. Lord of the Flies contained many parts where some of the boys didn't follow the rules. For example, boys talked when they didn't had the conch and it caused chaos. Jack and Roger threw stones at them.

School is like a second home. Although it may not be favourited by anybody, spending twelve out of sixteen years there is a lot. To me, school has been a place where I've learned many things about myself. I have discovered my strengths, my weaknesses, but I have also found my likes and dislikes. Through school I've met many new people, who I now call my friends. Thinking about past years, I've realized that my school experiences have been awesome and I would not want to change a thing. But for Emily Goldin, her experience is the total opposite of mine.
Is it fair to physically, emotionally and mentally hurt an individual? Emily Goldin suffered a lot through her school years. She lost friends, and her dignity. She has recieved death threats, been called names and no body took any action to help her. The part that bothered me most was when she said, "The private school I attended refused to acknowledge that there was a problem. This is mainly because the offender's parents were huge dollar supporters of the school." Money does not help bring back kids that have commited suicide because they were a victim of bullying. I personally think that what that school did was unfair. Goldin was also called whore, slut, ugly and fat by a group of people. With no support from other people, she wasn't able to fight it off. It made things worse when she lost friends because they didn't know whether to believe her or not. She separated her school years into rounds. Round one: She lost most of her friends. Round two: She moved to another school, but that didn't help because some of the students transferred there as well making things even worse. Round three: Fast-tracking out of school. I think Emily thought she had no other option to fix this problem so she had to turn to leaving school as quick as possible. By the way Emily Goldin wrote this article, it is clear that she was suffocated in her own little world with nobody there to help her. She was isolated from everything and she had no other choice but to stick with it. But the last sentence captured me the most. "This leads me to pose a great question to all of my tormentors: Do you know who I really am?" Its inequality when someone judges another individual without knowing anything.
To sum up everthing, I am against bullying and how everybody treated her. Why should any individual have to go through this? Although I haven't been in Goldin's situation; it obviously isn't fun. You shouldn't need "scotch tape to hold together your heart."

Everybody has the right to freedom of speech. This allows people to state their own opinions on any certain subject. Although it is an individual's right, there should also be respect towards others. In Canada, it can be a crime to say offensive and negative cthings towards a specific race, sex, age, religion, ethnic origin, etc. Therefore, there should be limits and certain extents to freedom of speech.
To start off, there should be rules concerning freedom of speech because foolish remarks can be said. For that reason, people may take unwelcome comments more offensively than it should be. For instance, racist opinions may hurt the group of people that it was presented towards. If certain individuals say unnecessary things, discrimination and prejudice levels would always increase. Regardless of the negative aspects towards freedom of speech, there are also positive aspects to it. People can say and express feelings or beliefs on a unquestionable matter. An example of this would be an individual expressing feelings towards something. A relationship can be protected, (girlfriend-boyfriend relationship), if the truth is let out with freedom of speech. In addition, freedom of speech would assist in solving conflicts or problems either in a small community, or even a developed country. There are both pros and cons towards freedom of speech but, having limits would also benefit others.
In conclusion, although there are negative and positive sides on freedom of speech, there should be a certain extent to where freedom of speech can go to. Individuals should have freedom of speech to express their own ideas, but they should do so in a decisive manner. By allowing freedom of speech with limits, remarks that are not needed wouldn't be said and it would be assisting everybody in one way or another.

Write a three-paragraph blog post in which you argue for against the following statement:
"It was the mother's responsability to intervene in her daughter's life as she did."
In your post, you should express your personal point of view and provide strong arguments to support it. Include specific references from the story.
In the story, "Wilhelm," written by Gabrielle Roy, the mother of the story intervenes with the main character's life. Although mothers should always be alert to their daughter or son's life, sometimes, individuals just need their own space. The mother in this story decides to bud her way through her daughter's love life. Mothers know they have the freedom to do whatever it takes to take care of their own.
Gabrielle Roy creates a character in this story named Maman who is displayed as a prejudiced women. Ever since the beginning of the book, she was against her daughter dating Wilhelm because he was an immigrant. There was direct evidence in the text that proved that the mother was prejudiced. She was never considerate about what her daughter felt for him. "Who is that great beanstalk?" asked Maman. The daughter explained every spectacular thing he has done for her, yet she wasn't slightly impressed. So, before meeting Wilhelm, she came to a conclusion that she wasn't allowing her daughter to see Wilhelm ever again. She instantly "forbade me to see him." Despite her mother's decision about Wilhelm, she disobeyed her rules and never gave up meeting up with him. At once, it has been established that the relationship between the mother and daughter was slightly ruined. "But Wilhelm was clever. One or two days each week he finished work early; on those days he waited for me at the convent door," explained the daughter. That suitor of the daughter never gave up. Although the mother continued to forbid her daughter, they came up with new ways to reunite. Up until the end of the story, the mother repeatedly continued to ban her daughter from seeing Wilhelm and the couple continuously thought of new ideas to gather. When Wilhelm retured back to Holland, her mother finally then appreciated him.
Although what Maman did to her daughter throughout the book put her into misery, Maman did the right thing. She did whatever it took to show that her daughter deserved something better or maybe just someone else that linked with her daughter's personality better. Therefore, in conclusion, the mother had the reasons and right to do what she did and to also protect her young one.

Different generations go through situations due to different circumstances in their time. I think people my age face obstacles that are more socially and emotionally rather than physically.
I believe that teens my age mostly face themselves. It would be a person vs. person conflict. Because of current media, teens have a very difficult time being confident with their look. This, I would imagine is the most difficult thing us teens have to endure. In past generations, media probably wasn’t as widely distributed then it is currently. The media plays a great role in present life. The focus on teenage girls mainly revolves around the way they look. For example, most teens would have low self-esteem when comparing themselves to a model in the media. Another obstacle people my age usually encounter are several different social problems. Especially since Canada is a multicultural country, racism and prejudice happens a lot. Also, teens come across socials issues within their little communities such as the school, or their local neighbourhood. Their status in that group is defined by their behavior and/or by the way they look.
Teens also have to deal with competition and pressure that is placed upon us. Education is truly important nowadays. The difference between the past and present is that in the past, you can work your way up the ladder slowly without education. But because of new technology and new rules that apply to the world, education is the key for success in the future. Competition and pressure situated on teens, affects them emotionally because it causes a huge amount of stress as well as academic anxiety.
Although the present may face various obstacles, it usually produces similiar results.
